We hope we made our community Matam in Conakry, Guinea proud tonight. We will never forget where we come from and how everybody has helped to get us here! Thank you to our families, neighbours, friends and fellow acrobats! We are here together tonight!
In February 2022 the time had finally come! We received our partner from the municipality of Langemark Poelkapelle from Belgium and storyteller Rien van Meensel in Conakry to organize a project week in the Roland Pré school. As part of our three-year collaboration on global citizenship, we worked for a week with the fourth grade through circus and stories.
We are grateful to share some images from the Creation FA ! Following our first residency in Conakry in February 2021, we went out into Nature and here is the Result!
Amoukanama made it in the top 10 selected pictures of a photo competition organised by 4de Pijler in Belgium for local photographers.. Facinet Camara made a picture of a human tower and now we need your vote to get us to the top 3 ! The first three pictures get a prize to be spend in Guinea for our circus projects.
Goed nieuws!
First of all, we want to build a professional circus school in Conakry, Guinea. To the model of the National Circus School in Montreal, we want to offer a 3 year program for students. This program aims to offer the students a possibility to grow into a professional circus artist with the space to develop their own personality and unique talents.
A big element of Amoukanama is the exchange between people. We work with people with different world views, cultures, languages, religions etc. and strive to find common ground among them. Circus is a great tool to create connection despite differences. It speaks with values of trust through movement of the body and mind.
Amoukanama also produces their own international shows. We are working on a new creation project FA, both for public space (2022) and theaters (2023). In addition, we are performing with several shows and acts already:
We are building a mobile theater with several partners to tour Guinea (and other West-African countries) and bring the arts to other neighbourhoods and villages.
Amoukanama has been founded in the hearts of many people, especially the young acrobats of Matam Conakry, Guinea. It was them who have made the seeds for this project as it is their hard work and courage who led to the origin of the acrobatics in Guinea. however, there are a few who are currently leading the project to its realization... Let us show you a little video of who the acrobats are...

This year has been really amazing so far… When we first started Amoukanama from a small room cramped with acrobats somewhere in Conakry we had so many obstacles in front of us for our dreams that we could not imagine…
